Jersey Mike's, a rapidly expanding sub shop that's relatively new to the Twin Cities area, has identified Dinkytown as the next stop on their expansion plans. Jersey Mike's opened their first shop in the Twin Cities area in 2013 identifying future plans at that time for 50 locations within the metro. To date Jersey Mike's has 13 locations in the Twin Cities area with more openings planned for 2015.
In Dinkytown Jersey Mike's will occupy a retail space on the first floor of The Marshall, a 364 unit luxury student housing project that opened in Fall 2014. You probably are familiar with The Marshall even if you don't necessarily know it's home to the nation's first Target Express location.
Jersey Mike's will have quite a bit of competition in the neighborhood once they open later this month. Subway, the world's largest sub chain, has a restaurant across the corner, down the block is a Jimmy John's and a Potbelly Sandwich Works and oh yeah, don't forget the Erbert and Gerbert's two blocks away. But there's one thing we can rest assured about, college students love themselves some subs.
So what exactly makes Jersey Mike's Subs any different from the four other competing sub shops in the area? It's all fresh... as in really fresh. The submarine subs have all their meats and cheeses cut when ordered so it's not just sitting around and therefore true freshness is ensured. You can choose your toppings or you can order it "Mike's Way" which includes shredded lettuce, sliced onions, tomatoes, herbs and spices and "The Juice" (red-wine vinegar and olive oil).
Currently Jersey Mike's has over 750 locations nationwide. Plans are already in works for an additional University of Minnesota location somewhere in Stadium Village (we're not suggesting anything but the WaHu development would be perfect). The Dinkytown location will open on Wednesday, March 25th.
