HOUSING PLANNED NEAR UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA

Another housing option will soon rise near the University of Minnesota. This time in an area where the housing boom as yet to grasp.

Dubbed the Erie Street Apartments, the building would stand four stories tall and include 48 apartment units. Units in the building would largely be 1 bedroom units with the 2 corners of each floor featuring 2 bedroom units.

The ground floor will hold a community room, an outdoor patio, and storage space for 56 bikes inside and 8 more spaces outside.  A surface parking lot at the back of the site would hold 17 parking spaces for residents within the building.

Designed by DJR Architecture the exterior sports a modern design with with wood textures along with tones of whites, greys, and yellow spread throughout. Fiber cement board and siding along with aluminum siding will all be used on the facade.

The building would be constructed on five abutting parcels of land that currently have homes on them and includes 625, 629, 631, 635 and 637 Erie Street with all parcels lying on the Eastern side of the street.

Developers of the project are looking to attract students who are in search for an apartment near campus and those students who are looking for their first apartment on their own.

This project will go before the City of Minneapolis' Planning Commission on January 12th. If approved construction could begin as soon as Spring with a completion in Spring 2018.

Starbucks returning to Dinkytown

Starbucks will open their sixth University of Minnesota area location Halloween weekend. It will mark the return of Starbucks to Dinkytown after an almost five year hiatus. The original location at 1500 4th Street SE closed due to the development of Sydney Hall Apartments by Doran Companies which occurred in 2010.

Starbucks newest coffeehouse will open at 419 14th Avenue SE in the recently completed Venue at Dinkytown project developed by Opus Corporation. The retail space will be located directly next to Goodwill's newest retail concept Gina and Will

The return of Starbucks to Dinkytown really marks the chains success within the greater University of Minnesota area and the Minnesota market in general. The company added a Lind Hall location on campus two years ago along with an additional location at Carlson School of Business. With the new Dinkytown location opening up it will mark the seventh location for the company in the University of Minnesota area. There are currently 17 locations within the city of Minneapolis itself and to be honest you probably can't even fathom the number within the metro area. There's quite a few.

The Dinkytown Starbucks will be smaller than the location on Washington Avenue in nearby Stadium Village. It is likely to feature the new prototype with vintage design elements along with university motifs paying homage to the University of Minnesota. The location has prominant street presence with large windows opening the space to 14th Avenue SE. Inside the location there will be tall ceilings which will allow the space to feel significantly larger.
